Sen. Chuck Schumer’s Republican opponent, Wendy Long, released plans on Wednesday to address New York’s ballooning college debt by phasing out federal student loans.
Long seized on a state comptroller report released Tuesday that found the total student loan debt in New York increased to $82 billion in 2015 from $39 billion in 2005.
“The underlying problem, of course, is the huge federal subsidies being shoveled at higher education,” she said in a release. “They are like shoveling coals onto a fire, fueling higher tuition rates into what has now become a raging bonfire.”
Long outlined a three-prong plan to reduce that debt, starting with passing a law requiring colleges to refund students and recent grads any tuition that exceeded 1996 rates, adjusted for inflation. She said universities can trim their budget and tap their endowments to offset the loss of tuition money.

For years, Wendy Long has supported Donald Trump as the kind of national figure that could lead New York back to the Republican Promised Land.
She embraced his message, promoted his ideas and encouraged his 2014 interest in running for governor.
Now, as she seeks a U.S. Senate seat for the second time in four years – this time against veteran Democrat Charles E. Schumer – the prominent Manhattan lawyer is officially hitching her underdog wagon to Trump. She argues that while the GOP presidential nominee may not garner electoral votes from heavily Democratic New York, he will prove competitive enough to attract support for a like-minded candidate on the ballot.

Wendy Long, the GOP candidate running for the U.S. Senate against Chuck Schumer, recently pledged that if elected, she would introduce legislation that would tie Congressional pay to the median American household income, currently $53,657.
That is a great idea. Unfortunately, it has about as much of a chance as Schumer ever running away from a TV camera.

WHY is WENDY running?
“Americans want their country back. I intend to fight to give it back to them. Political correctness is killing our jobs, our borders, our security, and our culture. We need to clean out the corrupt Establishment and make the government our servant and not our master.”
